Description:
Medium size and very similar to Black Redstart. Male from male Black by paler grey crown, nape and mantle, generally more prominent white band across forehead and line to above eye, black of throat does not extend onto breast, and has white centre to belly. Female similar to female Black Redstart.
Distribution:
Vagrant in the north and western border areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly Ghizer and Hunza. Prefers semi-arid or arid areas with scattered scrub, thorn steppe or open undergrowth, open forest and woodland, usually below 2500m.
Behavior:
Forages from bushes or lower branches of trees, flying out to catch prey on ground, usually returning to eat it; makes short sallies after flying insects, and flies or flutters to pick items from trunks, branches and leaves, sometimes hovering briefly. Diet mainly consist of invertebrates and berries, switching proportions considerably during summer and winter.
